Amazing Reads: Amazing Spider-Man #7

Well, here we are, and our first return appearance of a villain. Of course it isn't the menacing Doc Ock, or well, I'd say Lizard, but a bit much, since it was the last issue. Come to think of it, we really haven't had that many impressive villains thus far. Chameleon was dull, Sandman was crappy. Oh, and Tinkerer was an alien, but not really, but that isn't revealed for a 100 or so comics, so let's just go with the alien. For those who want to imagine that line would sound when spoken, just say it out loud without pausing for breath.

Back to point. Amazing Spider-Man #7. The Vulture returns. Yay...

The most dangerous foe of all. An 80 year old man!

Amazing Reads: Amazing Spider-Man #6

Welcome! This episode...can I call these this? Whatever. This Episode, we look at the first appearance of the Lizard! Villainous star of The Amazing Spider-Man. Making only the Green Goblin the only villain not to appear into the comics that we have seen in the films. (In this series, of course he has appeared in the comics). Well, him and Venom (That wasn't Venom!) and Harry Osborne as the Green Goblin, but...that doesn't matter. That was Spider-Man 3, that movie doesn't exist.

Right. Onto Amazing Spider-Man #6.

Hey, I saw this movie!

Amazing Reads: Amazing Spider-Man #5

And so we come to this. Our Fifth Amazing Spider-Man. This time we get the villainous Dr. Doom. Because, well, neither Stan Lee nor Ditko felt like pulling another animal out of their sack to create a new villain this month. So what happens when the Spider-Man faces off against the metal masked freak? Well, stay tuned, and we shall see.
Why did it have to happen? Come on text box...why?

Amazing Reads: Amazing Spider-Man #4

And now, we dive into Amazing Spider-Man #4. With no Johnny in sight, we just get Sandman, annoying Jocks, Peter being...well Peter. Also, threats of suing and J.J. with no pants. Not sure how all that is connected. So, let us move on.

Nothing, except a bad sequel!

Amazing Reads: Amazing Spider-Man #3

Welcome to Amazing Reads. This time we look at Amazing Spider-Man #3. We finally get a really good issue. This is the first issue with one story. And it's our first story with Doc Ock. Let us dive into our first real villain! Oh, and Human Torch is here somewhere.

I love me some Doc Ock.

Amazing Reads: Amazing Spider-Man #2

And so...After a hiatus we see our Amazing Spider-Man #2.

Is there anything special about this book? Who of Spidey's long standing rogues gallery will show up this time? Oh, and how selfish will Peter be? I love these books.

I don't believe you cover. Vulture isn't a great super-villain.

Random Grab Bag 03/05/2013

Well, It's friday and that means another one of these, what in the hell did I do this week that is worth talking about?

NOTHING!

Aw...fun...

New comics are coming in Saturday this week, along with Free Comic Book Day. Iron Man 3 is coming out tonight. And I frankly have been working my ass off at a new job. So my Random Grab Bag is...NOTHING.

Thought that's not fair for all one of you out there. Over the weekend, I'm hoping to do a Free Comic Book Day Special. And A review of Iron Man 3. It'll be fun.

Amazing Reads: Spider-Man The Darkest Hour

Welcome to Amazing Reads. With actual reading. This is a novel. Spider-Man The Darkest Hour is written by Jim Butcher, of Harry Dresden fame. He also wrote Codex Alera, but never read those, I prefer the Urban Fantasy, much like Super-Heroes in some weird way. But let's get to this review.

Aww...Black Cat.

Amazing Reads: Amazing Spider-Man #1

Alright, so we dive into the second outing of this strange experiment that will ultimately end in my complete and total break down. At least I'm already half way there.

Hello again dear readers, I'm here for a second edition of Amazing Reads. This time it's Amazing Spider-Man #1. You remember that one don't you, it has stuff, and stuff happens. Okay, so it's not important in the grand scheme of things, it isn't his origin and he doesn't do anything spectacular (I hate myself sometimes) but it is the first of his solo run, and his second appearance.

Yes, caption, your cover already implied that.

A Year in Haven

Prologue: The World Between

Renold Graves stood in the middle of a library. It seemed to be a personal library; that much became obvious to him instantly. Every wall was covered in books stacked to the ceiling in their shelves. The longer Renold stood in the room, the less it seemed to have a defined shape and size. It was always changing, in subtle ways that were near impossible for Renold’s mind to process. And none of this disturbed him. It all seemed so natural. All of a sudden, his hand moved quickly to feel his chest. He felt the cloth underneath his finger tips. Standing there, Renold was confused. Was he feeling for a heartbeat? Was something missing? Everything seemed to haze away from him as he stood in the middle of the library.

Random Grab Bag 04/19/13

So first off, what is Random Grab Bag? Mostly what ever I feel like covering of what I've read, seen or just about anything else that lands on my desk for the week. Mostly though I have a feeling this will be a handful of comics that I want to talk about, what ever my pulls for the week were. So this week we have Daredevil 25, Green Lantern New Guardians 19, and Justice League 19.

Yay...

Amazing Reads: Amazing Fantasy #15

First and foremost, Welcome!

I'm here doing something a little different and hopefully entertaining. I figured I'd  go back into the past. I have a stack of Amazing Spider-Man Essentials. So that will be what this is. A review/recap/comedy routine of Amazing Spider-Man and his spin-offs.

Like Doctor Who featured earlier this week, I'm also a fan of Spider-Man. I have a pretty good working knowledge of Spidey (Better than DW that's for sure) but I'm still a laymen in other ways. So the purpose of these is to explore old comics from the point of view of someone like me, who grew up on 90s cartoons and movies than really the history of the comics.

Our first feature: Amazing Fantasy #15

I think I've seen this somewhere before.

Amazing Reads: Prologue

For anyone making the travel over from Panel by Panel, you may recognize a few features you've already read. Specifically Amazing Reads. I'm reposting most of the Amazing Reads I've already done, on a structured/weekly basis. This will be Amazing Fantasy through Amazing Spider-Man #11. I have several others Amazing Reads, including a novel, and the 50th Anniversary issues, that may me posted as well.

Now because these are reprints, and I'm not a very good editor, you may catch references to podcasts, or even other articles, that don't appear on this site. I apologize, and if you see any, please feel free to tell me.

What is Amazing Reads? Well wait till tomorrow to really get an idea.

Doctor Who: Shroud of Sorrow

I'm sorry this is an irregular thing, and frankly it shouldn't be. But let's not worry about that. Let's look at what I'm talking about this time.

Now for the first part of this discussion, let's talk about my general interest in Doctor Who. I like to think of myself as a fan making his way up the ranks. Meaning I like the show, a whole bunch. I've developed favorite Doctors and roughly forty-two DVDs of the classic series. I watch the new series and I enjoy it.

Teething Pains

So, second post in over a month. Obviously I'm not going about this as quickly as I can, and should, and I apologize. That being said, I figured a quick pointless post saying I'm still here won't aswade you, so...yeah.

My comic endorsement of the week then. Hawkeye #9. It comes out this week. Have I read a preview of this book? No. Why am I recommending this book then. Because it's bloody hell awesome!

Starting off

Or...Why I think this cross over was utter crap. Beware, Spoilers.

There are two things that I will point to during this "review" of Throne of Atlantis story line. One will be a nit pick that doesn't matter. One will be a relatively serious discussion on the portrayal of characters. The first and nit-pickiest stems from Geoff Johns apparent dislike of the Justice League International.
